
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged landlords never to require a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students.
This arrives soon after NSFAS acquired reports about some accommodation vendors who need NSFAS-funded students to pay a deposit or top-up payment so as to get entry to the accredited private accommodation.

"NSFAS reminds accommodation suppliers from the obligatory conditions, as furnished by the Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement concerning the personal accommodation suppliers and NSFAS funded students," NSFAS reported in a statement on Thursday.
The Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement states the lease will be paid month to month into the accommodation provider (lessor) by NSFAS, on behalf from the lessee (NSFAS funded student), in accordance with the NSFAS terms and conditions for private accommodation companies’ participation on the student accommodation portal.
"The lessor may not need or allow the lessee to pay for a deposit, top-up payments, or another varieties of payment towards the lessor, or every other person in connection with this arrangement, including payment of hire, though awaiting payment from NSFAS. The NSFAS terms and conditions for private accommodation suppliers’ participation on the student accommodation portal also states that: "Where the NSFAS-funded student is defunded on account of an incorrect choice by NSFAS, the student will not be accountable website for payment of any arrear rent to the accommodation service provider, up right until the date of being defunded."
NSFAS stated that where the NSFAS-funded student chooses to carry on occupying the leased read more premises, notwithstanding becoming defunded by NSFAS, the scholar is going to be chargeable for payment of hire to the lessor from your date of becoming defunded.
